Ever since we got Lucifer we have been wondering whether we should/want to enter him into a show. We think he's absolutely gorgeous and looks like an ideal sphynx. But I think he would hate it - being handled by the judges and stuff. Samael's character more suits this kind of stuff but he is probably not show quality appearance wise.

So what do you guys think - honestly - is Lucifer show quality and is it worth it to put him through something he'll probably won't like?

If he would not like it, his additude would show thru. Have you brought him out to stores and such to get him used to other people handling him. I know I can't go into a store without someone wanting to pet him and take pictures with whoever I have that day.

I honesty think they are all show quality! Really do we need a judge to tell us our cat is perfect!

As for showing, if you are into that then go for it just remember not to let what someone else says get to you. Admin and I visited a cat show without the cats and well that is all it took for us to know it is not for us.

If Giz didn't do well with people and being handled, I wouldn't show him. Being at the shows I've seen several cats there who are hiding in the benching cages or cowering in the corner of the cage in the ring and wondered how their owners could put them through that. I'd test how he did going to the pet store first.

Then there is the possibility of him getting sick from another cat that some irresponsible breeder brings in to show that is sick. I know of at least two people who have lost their cats to a disease they picked up at a show. So if you aren't sure he would enjoy it and you factor in the fact that he could get sick , it wouldn't be worth it to me. I enjoyed going to the only show I went to, but I was there without my cats.

I am like Susi, your boys are handsome, but, I would'nt take the chance
of taking Izmae to a show and her getting sick and loosing her, for the
whole world.

Thanks so much for your imput guys, I really appreciate it!

I took a look at the website of the organisation that hosts a show during Easter and learned a bit more about the process. I came to the conclusion that it's not really for us. Turns out it's not really a one time deal; if you really want to win a big prize, you have to go to at least four shows... Don't really feel like schlepping Lucifer all around the country for some ribbons!

As far as Lucifer not liking it, I guess you never know until you try it. He does fine with company and getting attention from strangers, but he really has a mind of his own and gives affection when HE feels like it

In the end it boils down to whether I feel it's worth it. Taking Lucifer's wants, the cost of going to multiple shows AND risking disease (or even death) into consideration tells me it's not.

Have you been to a show? If not, you should go check it out....it's interesting to see and they usually have cool cat things to buy from vendors. You can watch the judging and see how Lucifer stacks up by what they are looking for. I don't think there is anything wrong with showing--I just wish there were a way to assure your own cat's safety, is all.

I've been to one show but didn't pay much attention to the judging... There were only a few sphynx cats (two or three) and I thought Lucifer looked a lot better - but I may have been a little biased

Perhaps I need to visit another and actually pay attention!
