So, before reading anything else, consider answering this question because it might help me before you go through the effort of reading the rest of this. Is it okay/accepted/promoted to feed bones to cats?
In my research on raw, Ive seen it suggested that as close to a 'wild' diet as possible, ie organ meat, muscle tissue, bones, etc, is the best. My cat readily eats muscle and organ tissues, but she cannot seem to tolerate bones. So, I have a normal furry baby that I have been feeding raw as well as kibble. (She genuinely prefers the raw, and only eats some kibble if meat isn't available.) I wanted to gradually warm her up the concept so I fed her chicken cuttings, or a chunk of beef (not ground beef) etc, nothing with bones. After several weeks of this, and her taking a strong liking to it, I decided to introduce bones, such as chicken wings, a small plucked quail, etc. .....It hasn't gone well, lol. When she doesn't fiddle with it endlessly (picking it up with her claws or teeth, and then dropping it again), or drag it into the living room (on the carpet, I might add) and shred (without actually eating) it, she stares at whatever I've placed in her dish with a genuine look of disbelief. Mom, it comes with ... -bones-? Should I continue to debone meat for her (since she readily eats that) or make a continued effort to transition her to boned raw? I'm also somewhat nervous that she'll decide eating raw meat (with bones) is too much effort, and stick with kibble. (Which I obviously don't want) Anyone have some thoughts?

Bones are essential--but if your cat won't eat them, you can add bone meal or some kind of calcium if I'm not mistaken. You should google some recipes for raw that will guide you in what supplements you need and what ratio of organ meat to muscle meat to bone you should be feeding. And you should most likely be adding taurine as well.
Good luck with the raw feeding, Susi and the gang

I'm not a raw feeder but how about cutting the food in half as not to have such a "full" plate. |

What kind of raw diet are you feeding her? Are you just buying neat from the supermarket and giving it to her that way? I feed Sealy a homemade raw diet that only consists of ground meat (the whole carcass including bones) and a supplement (including taurine) made for ground meat with bones. I get everything from Hare Today Gone Tomorrow. Every other day he gets a raw chicken wing or neck.
I only started him in the raw meaty bones a couple weeks ago. I tried it when he was a smaller kitten, and all he did was carry the chicken neck around the house. I decided to try it again now that he's a little older. I tried cutting the neck in hunks, but he kept swallowing them too soon and would throw up and keep going. The first time i gave him a wing, he only ate the meat off of the bones on the wing. Then I tried the neck again (whole this time) and he ate the whole thing, no problems. Then I went back to the wing and he ate everything except for the larger bone. Is you kitty a cat or kitten? It may be tougher to get her to accept bones than it would be for a kitten.

Sealy -
Yes, I buy meat from the supermarket, typically eat half myself, and feed the rest to the cat, so she does get a variety (usually chicken). I purchased some thighs, drumettes, livers, gizzards+Hearts and rotate what she gets daily. (When I was at the supermarket buying these things, I thought the cashier was going to ask me if I was attempting to make chicken zombies, LOL!) As to age, I'm not sure, frankly. She was a stray that we found and fell in love with (she's all white, like my first kitty!) and at a guess is about 3 months old(judging solely from weight). She definately hasn't reached her full growth yet, in any case. This being my first experience with raw, I think it has been good so far. I've never had a cat that has recovered from having a cold as fast as she has, nor have I ever had a cat with a coat so silky smooth! Susi- I like the sound of a suppliment! I've tried different kinds of bones even (smaller and bigger) to get something she's used to. She's lazy and likes munching on something she doesn't have to fight with, I think. As for suppliments, kitty bloom is the one I see folks mentioning regularly. I'll look around next time I'm at the pet store. Thanks!
