So I took miss cranky pants in for her last check on her mouth and they say it looks just perfect.

She has also gained 1.6 pounds in 14 days!! Woooo Hooooo!

So what kind of goal weight should I be aiming for do you think?
Or is it more just go by how she looks then fret about what the scale says?

She is turning into the little devil deva.....She was snuggling under the blanket with me this weekend and decided I wasn't petting her enough so she reached over to my hand that was not petting her and bit me!!! Not a love nip either, canines right through my finger. Took 10 minutes to get the bleeding to stop! Of course I yelled ouch and she went running for the hills and has been cautious when approaching me or getting under the blankies. Goodness, for a cat that only has about 12 teeth in her head she sure can bite!!!

Silly kitty!! Don't bite the hand that feeds you!! Geesh!

I would go by sight, not scale. I have some that weigh 9.5 lbs, another adult that weigh's in at 6.5. But they all look good. Paris, my skinny girl, you can see her back bone, but not bad. She has a nice tummy on her and no ribs showing, so Im not worried about her weight. She is small, my 6 mth old male is bigger than she is.

I would keep an eye on your finger. Cat bites can get nasty fast.

I agree. Even though I hit the emergency room within half an hour after one of my cats bit my finger and was placed on antibiotics right away, it still got pretty painful and infected and I had to have physical therapy to get use of it back again. Over a year later, it's still stiff and the feeling's not right.

But very glad she's improved with her weight and being with you!

Be very careful with cat bites--I spent a week in the hospital with blood poisoning and fasciitis last year at Thanksgiving. It was horrifically painful and they thought they were going to have to go in surgically on my hand to "clean up" the fascia. My sweet Moody bit me thinking I was Boo, whom he hates. It hurt badly and Moody had really chomped down HARD. I thought it was ok--I washed it and had said to my sister that this hurt worse than any bite I had ever had.....wondered if I should go the the emergency room. She took a look at it and siad she thought it looked ok, so we went shopping and then I came home and watched tv, fell asleep in my recliner. Got up the next morning with a red streak from the bite to my arm pit. So off I went to the ER--they admitted me right away and gave me massive amounts of IV antibiotics, morphine, and packed my hand in ice for several days before I could barely even move my fingers. They said cat bites are worse by far than dog bites--the cat's teeth are thin and when they bite, the bacteria get deposited into your flesh, but the the skin closes right back up around it allowing it to just multiply like it's in a petri dish.
If you get a cat bite---soak the affected area in hot water with disinfectant soap in it--for a long enough time for the heat to draw.....then keep a VERY close watch on it and if you start to get a red streak, go the the hospital ASAP.

So nice that she is gaining weight and is loving you, and wants to be pet!! yay!

I think it is so great you rescued her and she has a loverly home now!

Agreed with what was said above about the cat bites. A few years ago, I wasa diagnosed with a rare illness, but in the course of the diagnosis, they tested me for cat scratch fever numerous times since I had cats and was very involved with them and played with them all of the time. The story Susi described is scary but can happen if your baby has a bad mouh, which since she had some infected teeth, she might have some lingering bacteria which she is immune to but you aren't. Like susi said, watch for red streaks or a red, hot swollen hand, OR a fever.

Otherwise, hoping your baby starts to get fat!

Moody's mouth wasn't and isn't bad---all cats have mouths filled with bacteria that don't mix well with warm, wet human flesh. According to the hospital personnel, cat bites are the worst of all bites.

Yes, sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like that - my apologies! I did mean it to come across that it can happen with any animal bite, and then especially if the cat had some infected teeth/gums. We as humans are just not immune to cat bacteria. They have many more strains in their GI system, which allow them to break down items such as raw food. Any mouth is bacteria field, humans are the next worse bite to have - besides anything that can have rabies.

No apology needed...I wasn't offended. I just want people not to think that if their cats don't have an infected mouth that all is well. ANY cat bite is serious or at least can be. And you're right about human bites--they are nasty too.
