Hello everyone,

I am in the process of adopting a Sphynx baby from Russia i fell in love with.

I have received her parents hcm tests but i am very nervous about it.
The tests look a bit fishy to me but i just might be seeing ghosts.

And now i was wondering if someone can give me a list with vets in Russia in the Moscow region so i might contact them to see if they could take my worries away.

Is there anyone on this forum from Russia Moscow region or anyone that has a Sphynx from that area?

I just went throught a situation, where I was dealing with a breeder here in Ontario, who was from Russia & so were her cats. I ended up not adopting from here, because I was also skeptical of her HCM reports and ones not being done on the parents etc... It's a long story.
I met another breeder in Ontario yesterday who I felt great about, she had all reports done by a registered cardiologist, oppose to a ordinary vet.

The breeder told me this, she said that she personally would never get a cat from Russia. She mention not all but some, are out for for the dollar and will do anything to sell a cat. 1000-1500 is a lot of money to us, but worth even more in Russia. SCAMS!!

Secondly she mention that their pedigrees are not closely followed.

Lastly because in Russia a lot of them breed with the Don Sphynx, which is not a real Sphynx, and due to the Don's dominant gene and our Canadian Sphynx being a recessive gene, it's destructive to the Canadian Sphynx breed.

Anyhow go with your gut. There may be a lot of people on here that have adopted from other Eastern European countries and had good experiences, I'm not sure. I myself wouldn't trust someone that I've never met in person, just too many scams out there.

My Sphynx is from Latvia, and I'm in the process of getting #2 from Russia. I know for a fact my breeder isn't scamming me, as I got Waffles from her, and she is helping me get #2.
Are you adopting a Canadian Sphynx or a Don Sphynx from over there?? The reason I ask, is because Don Sphynx breeders don't generally scan for HCM. If they do it is not every year, because Don Sphynx don't have the same susceptibility for HCM as Canadian Sphynx. (Of course, I know ANY cat could develop HCM, but I'm just saying Don Sphynx have stronger hearts than Canadian, usually.)

If you are still looking for a Sphynx, and you want a Don Sphynx from Russia/Europe, I can send you a private message with some contact information for different Catteries/Breeders. I LOVE my breeder. I feel like we are best friends (though I don't know much about her! Ha! Just her cats! lol!)

But really, if you want a little guidance, though I don't know any vets there, I could help you find some good breeders.

I am really excited and can't wait to hold him in my arms but at the same time i am nervous and seeing the worst scenarios in my mind...

I have found a veterinarian couple in Russia though that helps foreigners import or adopt a cat from Russia. They have been very helpfull and they have checked my cat's papers and also the specialist where he and his parents was HCM tested. It is a very reliable veterinarian and they told me not to worry and that everything is ok. I am glad i found a contact in Russia to help me with that. I don't know if i am allowed to post information, website, or emailaddies, but it might be a helpfull contact to others that are thinking about adopting a pet from Russia.
